Linux turns your machine into a powerful 32-bit multitasking workstation. Linux is a UNIX clone, developed by Linus Torvalds and thousands of volunteers on the Internet.
Linux has a full range of software and tools. Play popular games. Connect your machine to the Internet and set up a WWW site, use electronic mail, and read USENET newsgroups.
Linux needs about 8 MB of memory and to install Linux to your hard disk using about 50 MB to 1 GIG. A basic installation has C/C++, tools, networking, the X Window System, and several applications and needs near 200 MB. For a full installation, a GIGABYTE (or larger) partition is recommended.
Linux is compatible with most PC hardware and supports most CDROM drives, sound cards, Ethernet adapters, and mice. The advanced kernel will provide stellar performance on high end systems, including support for SMP (up to 16 processors), PCI, and special code optimizations for the 386, 486, Pentium, Pentium Pro, slot 1 type chips, and others.
